5 Books to Feed Your Soul
Books can be a powerful tool to on your journey. Reading about something you can relate to is so special. Remember that we are not alone in our struggles. Other people not only have gone through the same struggles as you but have also learned or developed tools to overcome them. Here are some books that have helped me on my own journey.
1. The Handbook for Highly Sensitive People by Mel Collins
This book is described as “The most accessible guide to navigating life as a Highly. Sensitive Person (HSP)!” and I would have to agree!
In the book a fellow HSP shares strategies for managing sensitivities and developing greater self-love. There is also a self-assessment checklist for identifying HSP traits in yourself.
I really enjoyed this book and the author’s voice. He speaks of his own journey of discovering that he is a highly sensitive person. This really made me feel a connection. I felt as though someone out there really knows how I feel. He also goes through his extensive research on the subject.

2. The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself by Michael A. Singer
The chapters of this book are nothing but mirrors for seeing your “self” from different angles. And though the journey we are about to embark on is an inner one, it will draw upon every aspect of your life. – introduction
This book will really make you think about your inner voice. It asks the question of why that voice says what it does. You may not even fully be aware of this voice at first. Reading this will help you open your eyes to this voice and help you to understand it.
I really enjoyed this book as someone who struggles with her inner thoughts. I don’t hold as much value to what my inner voice says as I did before I read this book. It is a truly freeing feeling to not be held as a prisoner of your own negative thoughts. I really related to this book, and I got a lot out of reading it.

3. Untamed by Glennon Doyle
This book is a memoir of the author Glennon Doyle. While the book focuses on a portion of Glennon’s live, it also serves as a testament of female empowerment and self-love. As she walks us through these life changing experiences we learn important lessons right along with her.
This memoir will have you thinking about your own awakening. It’s scary to know you must change your life. The uncertainty of how things were turn out is always in the back of our minds. This story will show you how the author faces her own uncertainty.
Reading this was a breath of fresh air. I really loved the authors voice in this book. She speaks in a relatable way. Also, she details how she tackles so many relatable challenges. This book resonated with me in a deep way.

4. We Are All So Good at Smiling by Amber McBride
I really wanted to recommend this lyrically written young adult fiction novel. This book puts a magical spin on the layers of clinical depression and healing from trauma. We follow Whimsy and Faerry as they face and over come their trauma and loss together.
The YA novel is so beautifully written that you can’t help but root for the young friends. The magical elements to the story are well placed as well. With fairytales and monsters representing the pain they have been running from for 11 years.
I enjoyed the message and the writing in this book. It was an amazing and touching story or perseverance. I also loved the culture of the characters added into the story.
I really related to the connection to the effects of depression. By the end of the book I felt a little lighter.

5. Breaking Point & The Healing Point by Kira J
These two books are a must read on your journey. Both are an original collection of poetry, essays, and quotes written by Kira J. She shares intimate details of her own experiences, feelings, and revelations.
Written on the cover of The Healing Point is
“First we BREAK
Then we Heal
It’s Healing Time…”
This couldn’t be a better description of the two-book series. Kira’s voice it very real and powerful. She also performs her poems.
These books are my favorite on the list. I find her work so human and venerable. I think we can all relate to the challenges Kira speak of in her book. Once I had reached my own breaking point The Healing Point is the perfect book to read for inspiration and comfort.
